Privacy Policy

Last Updated: May 16, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to Traveler Jyoti ("we", "our", or "us"). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you visit our website (the "Site"), subscribe to our newsletter, interact with our content, or use the JTV App.

2. Information We Collect

  • Information you provide to us: When you subscribe to our newsletter, contact us via email, or submit a question through our "Ask Jyoti" form, we collect your email address, your question, and any other information you choose to provide. The "Ask Jyoti" form is powered by Tally, which stores submissions and forwards them to us by email. Tally's handling of your data is governed by Tally's privacy notice.
  • Automatically collected information: When you visit our website, we automatically collect certain device and usage information, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, and browsing behavior on our site to improve user experience.
  • JTV App data: Usage of the JTV App is subject to its own specific data policies, but typically includes performance analytics to ensure offline maps and translation features function properly.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect primarily to:

  • Deliver our monthly newsletter, travel itineraries, and specific budget hacks you requested.
  • Respond to your inquiries, comments, or business collaboration requests.
  • Analyze website traffic and optimize our content to better serve our audience.
  • Serve advertisements that help fund our free travel guides (see "Advertising" below).
  • Ensure the security and integrity of our digital platforms.

4. Third-Party Integrations & Links

Our website utilizes external APIs to display dynamic content. This includes YouTube (for our latest journeys) and Instagram (for Live Through My Lens). These third parties may set cookies or collect data according to their own privacy policies when you interact with their widgets on our site.

We also link out to external services like Airbnb, booking sites, and our mobile app store listings. We do not control and are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party websites.

5. Analytics & Cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors discover and use the site — which pages are popular, how readers found us, and which content is most engaging. Google Analytics sets cookies (typically _ga and _ga_<id>) and may collect anonymized information such as approximate location (derived from IP address, which we instruct Google to anonymize), device type, browser, and the pages you view.

We do not sell or share Google Analytics data with advertisers. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by clearing/blocking cookies in your browser settings.

We also partner with Microsoft Clarity and Microsoft Advertising to capture how you use and interact with our website — through behavioral metrics, heatmaps, and session replay (for example, how far readers scroll and where they click) — so we can improve and market our content. This usage data is captured using first- and third-party cookies and other tracking technologies, and Microsoft may use it for site optimization, fraud and security purposes, and advertising. Clarity automatically masks text and sensitive input, and we do not use it to identify individual visitors. For more information about how Microsoft collects and uses your data, see the Microsoft Privacy Statement. You can opt out by clearing or blocking cookies in your browser settings.

6. Advertising

We display third-party advertisements on our guide pages through Google AdSense to help cover the cost of producing free travel guides.

  • Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie and identifiers such as __gads and __gpi) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this Site and other sites on the Internet.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info.
  • For more information about how Google uses data when you use Google's partners' sites or apps, please review Google's policies.
  • The newsletter pages, the homepage, the library/guides index, and these legal pages do not show advertisements — ads only appear on individual guide pages.

7. EU/UK/Swiss Visitors — Consent for Personalized Ads

If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you will see a consent banner on your first visit, provided by Google's Consent Management Platform. The banner asks whether you consent to personalized advertising.

  • If you consent: Google may serve ads tailored to your interests based on cookies and prior browsing.
  • If you decline: Google will only serve non-personalized, context-based ads (matched to the page content, not to you personally).
  • You can change your choice at any time by clearing cookies for our site and reloading the page — the banner will appear again.

8. Data Security & Retention

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, please remember that no transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy.

9. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location (e.g., under GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA / CPRA), you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information. If you wish to unsubscribe from our newsletter, you can do so at any time by clicking the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of our emails. To exercise any other rights, email us at the address below.

10. Children's Privacy

Our Site and the JTV App are not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
